Day 14 - July 18 - New York

Coney Island Beach
Time for a dip in the Atlantic
After breakfast, we donned swimming costumes under our clothes and went off the Coney Island Beach.

Coney Island Beach was recommended by one of our Walking Tour Guides as being an easy beach to get to (only one mode of transport), covered in our metro pass and a beach that has become cleaner over the years. The trip on the metro was about one hour.

The beach was a bit like Brighton Beach Sydney and good for a paddle.

The water was fine and a very different experience to the Australian beach experience. For a start, people use beach blankets to stake their claim on the beach.

A group of Amish were exposing their ankles at the water's edge. After a quick swim, we dried off and went into the amusement park.

Charlotte

Charlotte was keen on the high adventure rides, so the Ferris Wheel was the compromise between the tame tea-cups and the upside down high adventure stuff.

No trip is complete without some junk food and throwing away money at over priced games where the odds are stacked against you and the prizes are rubbish.

Majestic Theatre
United Nations
That evening we went to see Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theatre.

After the show we walked to the Hotel Intercontinental where we met up with Carmen, a school friend of Charlotte.

Carmen and her friend joined us for a drink at the bar.

At the bar, I got into an easy conversation with a couple of interesting out of town Americans, from LA and Carolina.
